Hello,

I am new here but not new to CAD. After a long time of being off track I have decided to go back to CAD to get this weight off once and for all. I have about 150 pounds to lose. I realize it may take 1-2 years but I am fine with that. I am 31 years old, married and mother of 2 young children. I am pre-diabetic and have hypertension. My back and knees hurt a lot. Being overweight has gotten in the way of my life and I just want my life back.

I have tried many weight loss plans but none has ever worked for me like CAD. I don't know why I ever strayed from it. If I had stuck with it, I probably would be at goal by now. Well no use dwelling on the past, right? I am here to stay. Tomorrow is day 1 for me. I am going to take it one day at a time. Here goes nothin.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I hope you are here to stay! We are all guilty of doing things that we regret so please try not to even think about that. The fact that you are willing to give CAD another try means that you are not willing to give up on yourself, which is a good thing.

There were many times over the years that I was willing to accept the fact that I would be fat for the rest of my life. Since every diet that I had tried made me hungry, my willpower would only work for me for so long. As soon as I would resume my old eating habits, I would gain every ounce that I lost, plus more. I am confident that I will no longer repeat this horrible cycle now that I am in complete control of the foods that I eat now that I follow CALP.

I would love for you to join me here as often as you like. I am here for you and hope I can offer my support, friendship, and anything else you will need from me in order to get yourself to where YOU want to see yourself!

I am looking forward to sharing your journey with you!

Not going to be fat

Teri, you said in your response to Andrea, "There were many times over the years that I was willing to accept the fact that I would be fat for the rest of my life." I wasn't there yet, but I could feel myself giving in to the idea. It seemed impossible that I would ever reverse the trend and really impossible that I would get close to an ideal body weight. Every day in CAD, I feel more confident that it's going to happen. Even though I've had a couple of bad days, it's just a blip in the road. I'm totally OK with the realization that it's probably about 2 more years away.

Listen to Teri, Andrea. She speaks wisdom!

Hi From Allison

Hi Teri and all,

I followed you here from CAD. It's so funny to read posts that seem like I wrote them (such as Andrea's above). I know this lifestyle works best, so I don't know why I stray.

I'm newly here (love this site!). I'm starting today.

Looking forward to success for the 140 or so pounds I need to lose.

Welcome!

Welcome Allison,

I am really happy that you found me and took the time to leave a comment. Sorry about taking so long to respond, but I have been trying to get some things done around here since I returned from my trip to Alaska.

I hope you will share your CAD journey with the rest of us. This website would benefit others if more people would share anything related to CAD/CALP, since this program is not as popular as it should be, in my opinion!

I too tried CAD many, many

I too tried CAD many, many years ago and for whatever reason didn't stick to it. This time I am going at it as a WOE and a lifestyle rather than a diet and it is working. Explaining it to my husband has helped as well. He is amazed that it works...!! I started again on the 6th and have lost 8 lbs so far!! I am excited.

Congrats on your loss!

I'm excited to see your progress!!!

In July, I came back from a cruise at an all time high weight-wise. I "loosely" did the CAD program for a few weeks and got 9 pounds of it off - pretty much back to where I started before the vacation weight gain and thrilled!! But then I started having odd thoughts, such as joining another very famous "lifestyle" type weightloss program online (after seeing enticing commercials for it). I was thinking I had a head start, and the online program might help me keep it going. Unfortunately, I immediately went crazy obsessing about points and numbers... It was a reminder to me that those plans don't work for me. It's so crazy that I went from being in control to out of control "AFTER" joining another diet plan.

By the way, I recently read the "stress eaters" book from the Hellers, and when it comes down to it - it really is like CALP. They just suggest that you do the balanced (aka reward) meal in the morning. But they give the option for having it at lunch or dinner. After a build-up (easing into the program) at every other meal and snack - you eat just protein and veggies. So it's really the same as what we are doing with CAD/CALP. I DO NOT recommend the stress eaters book - it's very convoluted and difficult to follow. It took me a while to figure it out!!! They have you gradually do things, such as adding protein to each meal and snack and then adding veggies, and then taking out the carbs. It really is similar to that Carbohydrate 7-day plan book they had out - but it's MUCH HARDER to follow. Just my 2 cents.

Welcome Sadiemae!

I totally agree with making CAD/CALP a lifestyle, rather than a diet. In the past, when I was on a "diet", I considered it a temporary situation for a problem that would be solved as soon as I reached my goal. Unfortunately, it tool me twenty five years to realize that it was a totally unrealistic way of thinking, since my problem was learning how to be satisfied with the foods that I eat, instead of avoiding them. I was never able to reach my goal or even come close to solving my eating problem, until I found CALP.

Even after finding CALP, twelve and a half years ago, I still did not get it. I lost about fifty pounds at that time and actually jumped to Atkins since I thought I had my eating problem under control and I was eating a low carb diet anyway. It did not take me very long to discover that Atkins was not something I was able to continue and I totally lost the control I had gained while I was following CALP.

It took me another ten years to get started on CALP again, but at least it taught me a lesson that I will never repeat. I will never stray again, and when I reach my goal of becoming fit and healthy, I will still be following this way of eating as my maintenance program.

You sound just like me twelve and a half years ago! I learned my lesson and it sounds like you have too! If CAD/CALP works for us, why do we think something else will work better? My problem was that it was not working fast enough and if I had only kept it up, I would be where I am now, only ten years earlier.

I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the Hellers' stress eating book. If I may suggest you starting a blog entry the next time you are willing to share anything CAD/CALP related, others will be able find it easier.

I really hope you will continue to join me on this site so you can share your journey with others, just like us, that are looking for the solution to their own weight and eating problems.
