Grain Free Scale Results After 7 Days!
I began an experiment beginning on the 11th of June. A friend of ours mentioned to my husband that he lost weight by cutting grains from his diet. I have been trying to introduce other carbohydrates into my diet besides chocolate, and I didn't realize that every carbohydrate that I like to eat besides avocados, chocolate, fruit, and nuts, contain flour.
I was really excited to begin eliminating grains in my diet because I hope to find out how certain foods affect me. I want to know why my scale has been bouncing around so much lately and going without grains for thirty days sounded like the easiest experiment I could try.
Six days after going grain free, I ate lunch at an all you can eat pizza parlor with a group of six of us. My intention was to eat from the salad bar, hoping I could get enough protein. I had already mentioned to some of the group that I had gone grain free and since I had no problem going to the pizza parlor, one of the women asked me if I was going to eat the toppings off of the pizza. I didn't think of that and once she mentioned it, I knew I could get enough protein, not missing the bread at all.
I continue to follow the guidelines of CALP and I have lost weight every single day since going grain free. I have noticed since I have given up grains that I am not as hungry during mealtimes which has lead me to eat less. Is it coincidence, or do grains...flour in my case, affect me negatively. Only time will tell!

Going grain free
Teri,
I am very, very interested in your grain-free project. I have basically been stalled out with no meaningful weight loss since late last summer. I know a lot of reasons for this, especially my tendency to get overwhelmed with my too-busy life, lose focus, and let that "just this once" mentality creep in.
But I've also begun to wonder if something else is going on. I've even resorted to counting grams of carbs and even estimating my total daily calories. And it's not that much. Definitely way less that what I used to eat 30 years (and more than 30 pounds)ago. I remember the Hellers said if you think you're gaining weight while eating less than you used to, it's NOT your imagination. Menopause has certainly not been my friend in this regard. But anyway, it's time for me to do something new, and if grain-free does the trick for you, I think I'll give it a try. At least it's something I know I can definitely do.
Thanks, as always, for providing me with inspiration and ideas. We just dragged in from 10 days on the road without any internet access to speak of, and I couldn't wait to get my "Teri-fix!"
P.S. I hadn't noticed your carb choices were usually very grain-heavy, so this is not really a that big of a change for you, is it?

Grain experiment
I am thankful that you keep stopping by and continue to ask questions, thank you. Your support really does mean something to me!
I have never considered grains a problem in my diet because they were never something I really wanted. I started eating more grains the last few months thinking they were better for me than the chocolate and almonds that I actually prefer. Since I am at the point in my diet where I am looking for healthier choices, I have been doing some reading.
I have come to the conclusion that carbohydrates are the main cause of my obesity. I never worried about overeating vegetables or protein while following this program, but I always kept a close eye on my carbohydrates. Since I love fruit, nuts, sweet potatoes, and dark chocolate, I will be happy to include them in the carbohydrate portion of my diet for the remaining days of my experiment.
What I have noticed is that the scale keeps dropping, my hot flashes are becoming less severe, and I have more energy. My weigh in this morning was 142 lbs., down a pound and a half from yesterday. It may pop up again tomorrow, but my scale indicates a four and a half pound loss in the short time I have been cutting grains from my diet.
Results are definitely positive so far!
