Getting Started
I've given this a lot of thought. I'm 22 weeks into my pregnancy and I know without a doubt that I feel better and have more focus when I moderate my carbohydrate intake. The sugar cravings go away and I have a lot more energy.
I read CAD sometime last year but never committed to it. It seemed like a very reasonable plan and I wish I had stuck with it instead of letting myself go. Well, today is a new day! I have decided to do a loose version of CAD while I'm pregnant. As long as my doctor doesn't have issue with my weight then I will continue. I don't doubt that the program is healthy for me and the baby.
My loose version will go as follows:
1. 3 meals per day; no snacking in between
2. 2 CMs and 1 RM (dinner mostly)
3. RM foods I will allow during CMs in moderation: avocado, full-fat yogurt, raw carrots, tomatoes, onions, and raw nuts (as condiment)
As for exercise, I've been consistently walking three days per week and doing a toning routine 2 days per week. I'll continue with that for as long as I can.
I hope to document my progress here and maybe encourage someone else.

Healthier eating!
Welcome and congratulations on your pregnancy!
The first thing that I need to say is that I am not a doctor so any suggestion or advice is coming straight from my experiences. Since I have had three children and I know how I ate while I was pregnant with them, there is no way I would discourage anyone that would want to follow this way of eating.
Since my oldest child is 26 and my baby is 21, it has been awhile since I had to deal with the hunger and desires of pregnancy. I can honestly say that if I would have known about this program back then, I probably would not have gained the 70 pounds that I did with my first pregnancy. I took the prenatal vitamins that I was prescribed but my diet did not change at all. I started my day with carbohydrates (usually a bowl of cereal or toast) which caused me to want more carbohydrates (usually a sandwich on two slices of bread) which caused me to cave in to my cravings for fast food and ice cream, gradually eating more than I did before. Since I have been following this program, I have no doubt that I have been eating healthier than I ever did in my past.
I am looking forward to hearing how well this program works with you and your pregnancy!

I certainly went through that
I certainly went through that in the beginning when I ate whatever. I would end up in the McDonald's drive-thru or downing an entire pack of cookies. I can't believe that doing this would be any less unhealthy. I think by adding in those few RM items with my CMs I should be OK. I will keep you posted.
It has been a while since I
It has been a while since I read the book which I borrowed from the library. Can you update me on the issue of snacking? Is it allowed?
Water is amazing!
My suggestion to you would be to drink some water and if you find that you are truly hungry, eat. Make sure to limit your meals to protein and vegetables outside of your daily reward meal and enjoy your choices.
I am not familiar with CAD and loaned my book out so I can not give you accurate information from that book at this time.
Healthier decisions are what you are aiming for so enjoy your pregnancy. I find the balance of CALP allows me to enjoy the foods I love without losing control and I truly wish you the same!
I look forward to sharing your journey with you!

I got a copy of the book
I got a copy of the book today and see that it encourages a snack for maintenance. I will add the snack for the calories and nutrients.
Book is good!
I am happy you were able to pick up a copy of the book. I believe that limiting your carbohydrates will help you to control your insulin levels and it is one of the best decisions you could have made for yourself and the health of your unborn child.
The best part about following CAD/CALP is that we are free to choose our foods so we are in charge of how well we eat. Getting started on the program and gaining control definitely helps!
